Active case trend - good news or bad news?

After a tough week for many people in the world of COVID I have looked back over the last 4 week's Friday active case figures (I know, I need to get out more but of course I can't!) and the trend is the same across all 6 towns over the last 3 weeks.

Between 15th January and 22nd January all the towns I report on, the active case numbers increased dramatically by between 66 & 134%, with the exception of Los Gallardos which dropped by 22%.

Since then all of the numbers week-on-week have increased.

HOWEVER - and please, hang in there with me!

In the last 2 weeks, the increase in the active case numbers have dropped in Los Gallardos, Turre, Mojácar and Vera.

Los Gallardos from +51% to +35%, Turre from +45% to +28%, Mojácar from +16% to +15% and Vera from +32% to 14%.

Garrucha and Bédar did not do so well going from +18% to +43% and +20% to +66%.

Picking through all of this I think there is a glimmer of hope and fingers crossed the rate of increase will drop again by next Friday.

However, the new case rates per 100.000 population over the last 14 days are still high and they need to drop, I guess, before perimeter closures and other restrictions will be lifted.

The current restrictions, including the closed perimeter of our town, are in place until 00:00 15/02/2021 by which time no doubt the government will have advised what will happen from then.

Stay safe and remember, the rules of gel, facemasks and distancing are there to protect everyone.

Have a good weekend.
