Los Gallardos Friday Figures

Here is my final Friday COVID related post showing how the Los Gallardos Friday figures look going back from November through to today.

Similar to the last couple of weeks, the blue new cases line is levelling out, the red cured cases line continues to climb and the green active cases line drops lower.
Hopefully the trend will continue next week and if it does then we will hopefully see ourselves out of municipality lockdown.
Once again, stay safe and have a good long weekend as Monday is being classed as a "red day" with Día de Andalucía falling on a Sunday.

COVID update 26-02-2021

The Junta de Andalucía website today reports in Almería 154 new cases (191 yesterday), 221 cured cases (338 yesterday) and 3 deaths (5 yesterday) in the last 24 hours. The rate per 100.000 population has dropped from 317.2 to 299.5. Only 7 new cases have been reported in the six towns that I report on. Mojácar has 1 and Vera 6. 36 cured cases have been recorded across the six towns. Los Gallardos has 3, Turre 6, Mojácar 5, Vera 15 and Garrucha 7. No more deaths have been recorded locally. Overall through the six town, all of the active case numbers and per 100.000 population figures have either remained the same or dropped. As you may have read, Turre, Mojácar and Bédar can now leave their municipalities however the Los Gallardos perimeter remains closed. Los Gallardos needs 14 recorded cases or less in the last 14 days for the figure per 100.000 population to drop below 500 and then qualify for the perimeter being opened. Here are the latest figures including cases recorded in the last 14 and 7 days. Yesterday’s figures in (brackets). BOJA update

It is official: 21 municipalities of Almería are free of perimeter closure this Friday
The Junta de Andalucía has published an extraordinary BOJA just after 8:00 p.m.
It's official now. The Junta de Andalucía has published this Thursday after 8:00 p.m. an extraordinary edition of the BOJA with the new restrictive measures for COVID-19 in the province of Almería. You can check the newsletter here. Some measures that come into force this Friday.
According to the resolution of the Territorial Delegation of Health and Families of Almería, all municipalities pass to health alert level 4 modulated in its degree 1 except Paterna del Río, for exceeding 1,000 cases of accumulated incidence per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days, which which makes it have a health alert level 4 grade 2.
That means that from 00:00 hours this Friday, February 26 (early morning from Thursday to Friday) all the bars and shops of 102 municipalities of Almería can open: all except those of Paterna del Río. In this small town he is limited to essential activity for seven days, until next Thursday.
12 municipalities with perimeter closure; the rest with freedom of movement
The BOJA also includes the decree of the president by which the measures established in January 8 are extended. It establishes the perimeter closure in 12 municipalities of Almería during the next seven days. The residents of Balanegra, Felix, Garrucha, Los Gallardos, Lúcar, Ohanes, Paterna del Río, Pulpí, Urrácal, Vélez-Rubio, Vera and Viator cannot leave their own town.
In the rest of the towns of the province there is therefore freedom of movement, with some conditions: you cannot leave the province or enter the towns with perimeter closure.
That means that 21 towns that were closed this Thursday are now free of perimeter confinement, including Almería capital. These 21 municipalities are Abrucena, Adra, Alhama de Almería, Almería capital, Antas, Armuña de Almanzora, Bacares, Bayárcal, Bédar, Carboneras, Cuevas del Almanzora, Huércal de Almería, Laujar de Andarax, Mojácar, Olula del Río, Partaloa, Purchena , Senés, Tíjola, Turre and Turrillas.

How is the figure per 100,000 population calculated?

A couple of people (on the Huerta Nueva Facebook forum) have mentioned this in their posts so hopefully the following may help.

100,000 is divided by the population of the town, which in Los Gallardos is 2,902.

This figure is then multiplied by the number of cases recorded in the last 14 days.

Today Los Gallardos has 22 cases recorded in the last 14 days.
Therefore 100,000 ÷ 2,902 = 34.46
34.46 x 22 = 758.1

The total number of cases from Friday 12th February to today is 21.

Even with no new cases tomorrow, when the committee meet to discuss any changes, Los Gallardos will still have a rate of 723.6 which is where we were yesterday.

To drop below 500 Los Gallardos will need 14 cases or less recorded in the last 14 days.

Counting back it is Friday 12th with 4 cases and Monday 15th February with 6 new cases that are holding us back. Since Tuesday 16th we have only had 11 new cases.

If anyone wants to checks my maths as to when we will drop below 500 here are the daily figures for the last 14 days.

Thursday 11th - 1
Friday 12th - 4

Monday 15th - 6
Tuesday 16th - 1
Wednesday 17th - 4
Thursday 18th - 2
Friday 19th - 0

Monday 22nd - 2
Tuesday 23rd - 0
Wednesday 24th - 2

With no new recorded cases, Tuesday 2nd March will be the earliest that I think we can see a figure below 500.

COVID update 24-02-2021

In all of the six towns I report on the number of active cases has dropped and with the exception of Los Gallardos the rate per 100.000 has either remained the same or dropped. Sadly the Los Gallardos rate has increased from 723.6 to 758.1.

Vaccination information

This information has been provided by Huerta Nueva resident Chris Reade. His wife, June, was called for her first vaccination and he has suggested the following . . . Further to my post about the covid vaccinations, I would like to add the following without intending to be patronising in any way:
1. Make sure the medical centre and the ayuntamiento have an up to date phone number for you.
2. We only got 24 hours' notice in Spanish, no English spoken. If you are not comfortable with Spanish phone calls, I would perhaps find a Spanish speaker friend, gestor or interpreter who would take the call for you, and update the medical centre and town hall accordingly. Otherwise you might miss your vaccination.
3. The call comes as an 'Unknown Number or 'Private Number'. I often decline these, but I'm glad I picked this one up!
Just thought this might be useful to know. June added . . . Well been to have my 1st vaccination, now back home, it was quite an experience, very efficient, didn't even have to get out of the car and wasn't aware when they gave me the jab, all very smooth. Have to return in 3 weeks for the 2nd go

Spain announces new target groups for coronavirus vaccination

The 60-to-79 bracket is next in line, as well as under-60s with medical conditions. In Catalonia, health officials have detected the first cases of the strain first reported in Brazil

Madrid / Barcelona - 17 FEB 2021 - 18:18 CET

Spanish health officials on Wednesday defined new priority groups for the coronavirus vaccine.

Shortly after several regions began inoculating the 80-and-over population, the public health committee of the National Healthcare System said that next in line for the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are people between 70 and 79 years of age, who will in turn be followed by the 60-to-69 age bracket.

This expert committee also decided that the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is being administered to around 5.1 million essential workers (such as teachers and police officers) under 55 years of age, will next target the general population between 45 and 54, as well as any under-60s with pre-existing health conditions that make them especially vulnerable to Covid-19. These medical conditions have not yet been defined, however.

What is also unclear is exactly when these new priority groups will get their shots, as this depends on the size of the shipments and the speed of administration in a healthcare system whose resources are already stretched thin.

Different regions of Spain are proceeding at different speeds. For now, seven have begun immunizing the 80-and-over population, while most are still working on the Phase 1 priority groups: residents and workers of care facilities, health personnel and people with need for daily assistance who do not live in a care home. Meanwhile, essential workers under 55 are also getting immunized with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

Although no specific timelines have been announced, the goal is to vaccinate 80% of seniors 80 and over before the end of March, which means administering two doses to around 2.8 million people. But other groups will likely start getting their first jabs before that process ends, to ensure that there are no breaks in the pace of vaccination.

Once Spain’s seniors have been immunized, it is hoped that the epidemiological data will change significantly. Right now, eight out of every 10 deaths from Covid-19 are occurring among the elderly. Even if the virus remains in circulation the way it has to date, deaths should decline noticeably.

Social gatherings, the workplace, care facilities, the family home and schools are, in that order, the biggest source of outbreaks in the Madrid region, according to new regional government figures that show, for the first time, a breakdown of the origin of outbreaks.

There have been 1,340 outbreaks outside household settings since the first week of July, causing 12,776 infections. Another 236 outbreaks inside households have led to 1,089 infections. But these infections represent just 2.8% of the 482,768 that have been diagnosed since June 29.

The Madrid regional government’s official line, reiterated often since the summer, has been that “most [of the outbreaks] are occuring in family settings.” Although authorities never produced data to back up that claim, this theory is behind the looser restrictions adopted by Madrid since the beginning of the second wave in late July. On Thursday of this week, the region is planning to expand bar and restaurant opening hours even further, and push the curfew back an hour.

“The largest share of infections remains unspecified,” said the epidemiologist Fernando García, of the Madrid Public Health Association, alluding to the government report. Where did the remaining 469,992 cases not associated with an outbreak take place? This expert says that traceability should be done in all cases, yet in Madrid last week the traceability rate was just over 15%, according to weekly data sent to the Health Ministry.

The most recent numbers show that the vast majority of identified outbreaks are taking place outside the home. But even this is not statistically representative because the sample is so small that it cannot be extrapolated, notes García. “What is happening in reality, we don’t know. We are in a situation of vagueness.”

The Catalan government on Wednesday announced that it has detected two cases of the P.1 coronavirus strain first reported in Brazil. Both were identified in members of a family of six people, said the Catalan public health chief, Josep Maria Argimon. The final lab results confirming the cases will be available on Friday.

This is the first time that the new variant has been found in Catalonia. Cases were first detected in Madrid two weeks ago. Argimon said that this strain is more infectious that the original coronavirus but “does not seem to be more serious,” and that “it might make vaccines less efficient, but we don’t have evidence of it.”

Meanwhile, the strain first detected in the UK continues to make headway in Catalonia. Argimon said that the B.1.1.7 variant was responsible for a third of detected cases, and that in some parts of the northeastern region it represents 40% of cases. “There are some areas with hardly any [cases of] the British variant. But if we once thought it would be the dominant strain by mid-March, now we have reason to suspect that it will be sooner than that.”

Friday Figures

Here is my last facts and figures post for the week as the town figures are not updated over the weekend.
As you will see in the graph showing Friday figures from back in November through to today, the blue new cases line is flattening out and the orange cured cases line is rising. The biggest change since last week is the green cured cases line dropping dramatically.

I think it is fair to say that there is a difference of opinion on the re-opening of bars and restaurants for fear that it will result in an increase of new cases in a couple of weeks time.

Everyone has a choice to decide if they are going to use the bars or not and those decisions should be respected as no one is breaking the law. The rule of maximum of 4 people still applies and social distancing should be adhered to.

Let us hope that things continue in a similar fashion next week and that the rate per 100,000 population drops even lower and gets us towards the perimeters being opened.

Have a good weekend and stay safe.
