COVID update 29-01-2021

The Junta de Andalucía website has been updated closer to its normal time today and the population figures remain at the new ones that I published yesterday afternoon.

Today’s updated figures compared to yesterday are positive in the fact that many cured cases have been reported, but they also very sad as more lives have been taken and there are more new cases.

The cured cases (in the towns that I report on) total 127. Los Gallardos has 3, Turre 10, Mojácar 45, Vera 23 and Garrucha 6.

Lives taken (in the towns that I report on) by the virus total 4, with one each in Los Gallardos, Mojácar, Vera and Garrucha.

The total number of new cases (in the towns that I report on) is 55 with 7 in Los Gallardos, 6 in Turre, 17 in Mojácar, 10 in Vera (taking their total over 1000), 14 in Garrucha and 1 in Bédar.

Here are the latest figures with yesterday’s figures in (brackets).

Los Gallardos - Total number of cases 179 (172), cured cases 118 (115), active cases 59 (56), and 1654 per 100.000 (1481.7).

Turre - Total number of cases 192 (186), cured cases 116 (106), active cases 74 (78) and 1613.3 per 100.000 (1534).

Mojácar - Total number of cases 424 (407), cured cases 212 (167), active cases 205 (234) and 2449.1 per 100.000 (2404.8).

Vera - Total number of cases 1004 (994), cured cases 639 (616), active cases 354 (368) and 1847.5 per 100.000 (1800.4).

Garrucha - Total number of cases 400 (386), cured cases 250 (204), active cases 148 (181) and 1313 per 100.000 (1250).

Bédar - Total number of cases 16 (15), cured cases 10 (10), active cases 6 (5) and 304.9 per 100.000 (304.9).

The total number of lives taken are now Los Gallardos 2, Turre 2, Mojácar 7, Vera 11, Garrucha 2 and Bédar 0.

Portugal closes border with Spain.

Portugal closes its borders with Spain for two weeks, from Friday 29th January

The Government of Portugal has announced that the border with Spain will be closed as of this Friday and for an initial period of two weeks, in an attempt to contain the expansion of the coronavirus pandemic.

COVID update 28-01-2021.

The Junta de Andalucía website has been updated later than usual toady. Once again it brings reports of new and cured cases in the towns that I report on but thankfully no more lives have been taken.

16 cured cases have been reported with 1 in Los Gallardos, 1 in Mojácar. 13 in Vera and 1 in Gurrcha.

Los Gallardos has 3 new cases since yesterday, Turre 5, Mojácar 3, Vera 13 and Garrucha 6.

Bédar reports no changes other than a slight drop in the cases per 100.000 population.

COVID update 27-01-2021.

The Junta de Andalucía website again reports new cases, cured cases and more lives lost.

The cured cases in the towns that I report on total 30 with 8 in Turre, 20 in Vera and 2 in Garrucha. The number of lives lost in the last 24 hours are 2, one in Mojácar and one in Vera whose totals are now 6 and 10 respectively.

The positive news is that the number of new cases in our local towns are the lowest for many days at 23, with 3 in Mojácar, 19 in Vera and 1 in Garrucha.

Los Gallardos, Turre and Bédar report no new cases since yesterday.

COVID update 26-01-2021.

Similar to yesterday, the Junta Andalucía website reports more new cases, more cured cases and another life taken.

The number of cured cases in the towns that I report on are 6; with 1 in Los Gallardos, 4 in Vera and 1 in Garrucha. The life lost to the virus was in Mojácar.

56 new cases are in Los Gallardos with 5, Turre 8, Mojácar 8, Vera 23 and Garrucha 12.

Needless to say, all numbers per 100.000 population in the last 14 days have increased (with the exception of Bédar which decreased and they have no other changes).

COVID UPDATE 25-01-2021

Please accept my apologies for the late update today which has been due to work commitments.

There is very little good news in the reading of the Junta de Andalucía website today.

The positive since Friday is that there are 8 cured cases; 1 in Los Gallardos, 1 in Mojácar and 6 in Vera.

Sadly, another 3 lives have been taken; 2 in Mojácar and 1 in Vera and all the towns that I report on have new cases (with the exception of Bédar which has seen no changes).

Los Gallardos reports 12 new cases since Friday, Turre 22, Mojácar 50, Vera 76 and Garrucha 41.

This means that all towns (again with exception of Bédar) now have in excess of 1.000 cases per 100.000 population and are now in level 4, tier 2.

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain (to 22 Jan)

The Spanish Health Ministry is releasing figures on the number of Covid-19 vaccines distributed and administered across each region of Spain to date. We will publish updates on the figures here, as and when they are released.

Up to Friday 22 January, Spain has received a total of 1,346,100 doses of Covid-19 vaccines (1,310,400 by Pfizer-BioNTech, and 35,700 by Moderna), of which a total 1,165,825 jabs have been administered (representing 86.6% of total doses received). 68,456 people have now received a second jab. The latest total figures per region up to Friday 22 January are as follows:

Today’s update is unfortunately not good news across all of the towns that I report on, with the exception of Bédar that sees no changes, according to the figures on the Junta de Andalucía website.

There are no reported cured cases and 2 more lives have been taken in Vera.

Los Gallardos has 7 new cases, Turre 3, Mojácar 22, Vera 28 and Garrucha 18.

Today, again we see more cured cases and new cases reported on the Junta de Andalucía website.

Los Gallardos has 11 more cured cases, Vera has 13 and Garrucha has 2.

New cases are reported in Turre with 6, Mojácar with 17, Vera with 31 and Garrucha with 10.

COVID update 20/01/201 Part 2.

For some reason, I do not know why, the Junta de Andalucía website updated some of the figures late yesterday afternoon.

Los Gallardos cured cases number was changed from 88 to 101. This reduced the number of active cases from 56 to 43.

Turre’s total number of cases was increased by 1 to 142 and Vera’s was reduced by 1 to 804. Vera also saw a large increase in cured cases changing from 529 to 560 and their per 100.000 number changed a little too.

Therefore the amended figures for Wednesday 20th January are as follows with Tuesday’s figures in (brackets) . . .

Los Gallardos - Total number of cases 145 (142), cured cases 101 (80), active cases 43 (61) and 1,252.7 per 100.000 (1,395.8).

Turre - Total number of cases 142 (137), cured cases 98 (98), active cases 42 (37) and 676 per 100.000 (619.9).

Mojácar - Total number of cases 304 (292), cured cases 165 (165), active cases 137 (125) and 1,796 per 100.000 (1,686.7).

Vera - Total number of cases 804 (785), cured cases 560 (516), active cases 238 (263) and 1,391.9 per 100.000 (1,300.8).
