COVID update Friday 11th March 2022

COVID update Friday 11th March 2022 As you are no doubt aware, this weekend marks the second anniversary of the pandemic starting in our region of Spain. To compare on how things have evolved in the last 12 months, here is my post from Friday 12th March 2021 . . . “I probably do not need to remind you that on the evening of Friday 13th March 2020 videos were being posted on Facebook of police driving around Vera announcing through their speakers “Go home, stay home”. On the Saturday morning Pedro Sánchez announced that a lockdown would commence on Sunday and then later on the Saturday afternoon it was brought forward and was in place with immediate effect. Wow, what a year it has been since then! First up to break the boredom was Andrew Shep Pearson entertaining us with his Freddie Mercury impression www.facebook.com/shep7774/videos/10222060470563977 and of course Anne Anstey entertained Huerta Nueva from her solarium on a Saturday afternoon singing “Oh this year we’re off to sunny Spain”. I am sure there is some irony in there somewhere! www.facebook.com/groups/huertanueva/permalink/1602280149941224 For many weeks on a nightly basis we applauded our frontline workers and one person per household went to do a weekly shop. Has it all come flooding back? 12 months on and it certainly is not over is it? The vaccinations are slowly starting to roll out and hopefully these will make the light at the end of the tunnel shine larger and brighter. In the meantime all we can do is follow the rules that are in place and then hopefully we will get back to some better sort of normal where we can travel again and see family and friends that we have missed for so long.” In the last 12 months the vaccinations have indeed rolled out with 94.8% of Andalucian’s over 12 years of age having had 2 jabs and 67.2% having had 3. The rules have been stepped up and then stepped back down again and thankfully we now have more freedom both locally and travelling overseas. Sadly, in the last 24 hours a new strain of COVID has been reported and I only hope that in 12 months time I am not writing of more lockdowns and restrictions. At this time last year Los Gallardos had a total of 250 cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 24 active cases and an incidence rate of 241.2 per 100.000 in the last 14 days. BACK TO 2022 and Friday 11th March Today, the Junta de Andalucía website reports that in the last 24 hours, in the towns that I report on, there are 11 new cases with 4 in Mojácar and 7 in Vera. There are 8 cured cases with 1 in Turre, 5 in Vera and 2 in Garrucha. Los Gallardos (Yesterday’s figures in brackets) - Total number of cases 430 (430), cured cases 423 (423), deaths 6 (6), active cases 1 (1), 0 (0) per 100.000 in the last 14 days and 0 (0) in the last 7 days. Active case numbers are now Los Gallardos 1 (1), Turre 8 (9), Mojácar 29 (25), Vera 48 (46), Garrucha 45 (47) and Bédar 1 (1). In the province of Almería in the last 24 hours 168 (275) new cases have been recorded and 361 (433) cured cases. 1 (4) more life has been lost. The incidence rate for the province of Almería for the last 14 days has increased from 300.8 yesterday to 303 today but the 7 day rate has also decreased from 162.1 yesterday to 150.5 today. Hospitalizations and ICU numbers in Almería 05/03/22 – 688 / 90 07/03/22 – 744 / 99 08/03/22 – 690 / 90 09/03/22 – 672 / 88 10/03/22 – 642 / 86 11/03/22 – 617 / 83 Have a good weekend everybody and stay safe.
